This was the idea behind the production of The Great South African Cookbook by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, which seeks to give South Africans a wide variety of recipes from every corner of the country in one easy to reach place.
According to Michael Steger, a psychologist at the University of Louisville in Kentucky who conducted a study on whether people are happier pursuing pleasure or doing good, he found that the more people participated in meaningful activities, the happier they were and the more purposeful their lives felt.
“In celebrating seven years of Mandela Day this year, we thought it is important to stay true to the ethos and values of the initiative. The format of the announcement will be a first. We’re not only talking about Mandela Day activities, we are doing them,“ said Yase Godlo, Manager of Mandela day at the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
