CCSB Working To Uplift The Community of Springs

Coca Cola Shanduka Beverages (CCSB) continues with its “Live for a Difference” initiative.  The Campaign “Live for a difference” is CCSB’s commitment to make a positive difference in the communities it serves by redesigning the way the company works and lives so that sustainability is part of everything it does.

The campaign kicked off in November 2010 whereby CCSB in partnership with Food & Trees for Africa (www.trees.co.za) and other NGO’s in the area developed a permaculture food garden at the Trinity Methodist Church in Springs.  CCSB believes in developing this initiative so it becomes self sustainable, and will be holding different workshops at the Trinity Methodist Church over the next couple of months where they will ask their employees and other residents of the various NGO’s to volunteer their time in maintaining the garden.

Saturday the 14th of May 2011 was the first of these workshops where employees of CCSB gave their time and labour to promote through this initiative social development and raise awareness around the importance of good healthy nutritious food.  The company regards home gardens as one of the essential mechanisms in eradicating poverty and empowering communities, and wishes that the sustainability of this project will play an important role in encouraging and motivating the people in these communities to consider planting their own gardens and empowering themselves. The workshops focus on educating and empowering the community to grow their own food gardens and green their own environments, through preparing the soil and planting an array of vegetables that will be harvested as and when it they ready.
