“Pioneer Foods supports projects that specifically target those interventions that appropriately improve the ability of the previously disadvantaged individuals to feed and nourish themselves and their families,” states Pioneer Foods’ Website, July 2011.
The projects selected by Pioneer Foods either had an existing food garden, or were motivated to start one. The PSP was designed to identify which of the thousands of projects that apply to FTFA for support are viable. By giving them basic gardening tools, plant materials and a few workshops on site, projects have the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to developing and maintaining food gardens.
This Pioneer Foods intervention has resulted in eight out of the selected 10 projects identified as promising and worthy of the long term support required to achieve sustainable food production projects. All project members are extremely grateful for the sponsorship from Pioneer Foods and look forward to improved health and nutrition through this.
