In the lead up to COP17, the Conference of the Parties to discuss agreements around climate change to be held in Durban in a few weeks time, Food & Trees for Africa’s innovative Climatree offers all an opportunity to make their climate pledge.
The Climatree will be at the stand Food & Trees for Africa shares with Simply Green and Odyssey Magazine at the first Green Expo to be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from 18-20 November. Organised by the award winning Three Cities Events, The Green Expo aims to make sustainability accessible and appealing to homeowners and business people alike. As South Africa’s longest standing social and environmental enterprise Food & Trees for Africa has been promoting climate change action for the past 21 years through the over 4 million trees planted and awareness campaigns. Jeunesse Park, Founder of Food & Trees for Africa, is an advisory editor for Simply Green, South Africa's award-winning premier green lifestyle magazine.
Simply Green provides positive and practical steps to cleaner living for people who want to make a difference but don't want to compromise on lifestyle. Simply Green’s bimonthly editions are packed with information and inspiration for the modern environmentally-conscious consumer, presenting eco-friendly living with a modern twist.
Sharing the stand with Simply Green and Food & Trees for Africa is Odyssey Magazine, the publication which offers options and insights for people wanting practical steps towards integrated, holistic living in the 21st Century. Odyssey Magazine's aim is to entertain and educate readers, providing choices and resources that make living more fruitful and less harmful to ourselves and the environment.
“Come along to the stand during the Green Expo to make your personal climate change pledge by purchasing a leaf on the Climatree, a beautiful wire art baobab tree sponsored by Pick n Pay. Each leaf represents a personal pledge that everyday South African’s are making towards a lower carbon future, reiterating that it’s the small things that when combined, really do make a big difference,” says Park. “Add your pledge on a leaf for just R10 and Food & Trees for Africa will plant a tree for a disadvantaged community, thus offsetting carbon emissions and improving environments and quality of life.”
The Climatree has already attracted pledges from thousands across the country who are concerned with the risks and effects of climate change and hope that world leaders will reach a fair and binding agreement in Durban.
Following the Green Expo the Climatree will be moving from Cape Town to Durban, in time for the COP17, where the pledges will be presented as a united symbol of our commitment as South African’s to ensuring we do our part to contribute to a sustainable future for all.
