Every Day is World Environment Day with Konica Minolta South Africa

on
5,100 trees have been bedded down nationally since July 2017, through the commitment of Konica Minolta South Africa (KMSA), a division of Bidvest Office (Pty) Ltd, to environmental sustainability. For KMSA, every day is indeed World Environment Day.

These 5,100 trees will offset a whopping 1,881 tonnes of CO2 in their lifetime whilst contributing to an improved environment – providing all the benefits that trees provide. Ritchi Smith of Konica Minolta South Africa comments, “We should be concerned with our environmental impact every day, and that’s what KMSA is committed to do.”

Konica Minolta South Africa works with Food & Trees for Africa (FTFA) to roll out national tree planting projects. FTFA receives thousands of applications for trees nationally, mostly from beneficiaries in under-resourced communities. FTFA assesses beneficiaries to ensure all criteria for caring for trees are met and provides trees, compost, education and support for tree-growing beneficiaries.'

The inforgraphic (right) details the impact KMSA have had since July 2017.

The trees donated by KMSA have reached a total of 180 beneficiaries across South Africa, mostly township schools who required trees around sportsfields and playgrounds, or fruit for school orchards. “The impact of this tree planting programme is multipronged”, says Emily Jones of Food & Trees for Africa. “The schools will feel the benefit in terms of fruit production, shade and beautified landscapes for years to come.”

This tree planting forms part of KMSA’s ongoing commitment to ‘green’ South Africa which has seen the company plant a total of 39718 trees (including 4600 Bamboo Plants) since September 2008.
