Since 1994 this leading school food gardening and greening programme provides educator and community workshops, educational materials and is also a competition. EduPlant has helped thousands of schools to enhance food security, contribute to poverty alleviation and skills in their communities, improve local nutrition and develop more sustainable land and resource management and use. EduPlant is currently supported by The Woolworths Trust.

Calling all schools to enter The EduPlant 2018 Food Gardening competition.

Schools who have been growing and creating their gardens are invited to enter the EduPlant competition. There is R435 000,00 worth of prizes,  esources and funding for the winning schools. 66 provincial finalists will get a chance to compete at the Finals in October!

WOOLIES EMPLOYEES TURN THE SOIL AT LOCAL SCHOOLS WITH EDUPLANT

In celebration of October’s World Food Day, a volunteer cohort of over 200 employees from Woolies stores across the country rolled up their sleeves and went to work with learners in ten schools’ permaculture food gardens. As part of the Woolworths Employee Community Involvement Programme, this initiative recognised the importance of local, sustainably-produced, good food and helped these schools take their food gardens to the next level.

EduPlant 2017 Has Begun

According to the World Food Programme, “Sub-Saharan Africa is the region with the highest prevalence of hunger. One person in four… is undernourished. One in four of the world's children [here] are stunted. In developing countries, the proportion can rise to one in three.”
With the support of the Woolworths Trust, the EduPlant Programme is continuing to address Food Security needs at under-resourced schools around SA.

Woolworths and FTFAs evolving EduPlant model has a finger on the pulse of sustainable adaption

Now in its second decade, the EduPlant programme, a flagship Food & Trees for Africa initiative, implemented in partnership with the Woolworths Trust for the last 12 years, has supported the development of sustainable food gardens. This natural farming and greening helps schools and their surrounding communities to create abundant gardens with year-round harvests using permaculture practices.

As a model of good practise, long term initiatives are inspired and compelled to evolve, ensuring their relevance and validity in a changing world.

Winning EduPlant formula affirms national impact of addressing food security

The biennial school food gardening competition has once again brought together the brightest and best aspiring young farmers of the future under one roof.

The EduPlant National Food Gardening and Greening Competition, of which the Woolworths Trust is the funding partner, is Food & Trees for Africa's national programme teaching educators, learners and communities how to sustainably grow their own food.
